SlumberNapped Devlog #14 (Sep 2025) update.

I'm just posting so people know that I'm still working on the game.

I Kinda want to talk about the demo. I took it down because it was outdated enough that it doesn't reflect what the game is now, but after some deliberation, I've put it up again so it can stay available.

In the main game, I've added some New Nightmares to fight and changed some of the old ones. There's a full final nightmare in the game now, and some very positive story revisions to Nightmare 2 and 3.  The thing that every game does, where you can pet a dog, is done. I had to go about it in a weird way because the main dog is the game's save point, and it turned into a whole thing with its own aria. I won't say more than that because I want the rest to be a surprise.

I'm cutting the mini-games that are attached to the slugger and mega buster card sets. They slow down the gameplay too much.

I added options to adjust the player and monster damage anywhere from 10% to 200% so people can get fresh with the difficulty if they want.

Also, it turns out that  incompetech Goober has been using AI. I use a few tracks of his, but they are older and, to my knowledge, do not use AI.
I'm going to have to decide what I'm doing for music. I'd like to have some custom music, but I'm a no-budget dev. So if I do, I'll probably scrounge for funds and pull a balatro and go to fiver or something.

Here's a test of some weird wallpaper.

This is for the new zone I added to the game,

Check out this cool waterfall.

It took me a while to get it to look like this, but I like having a lot of details in the game that make the world feel as real as I can make it.

This is the Motel that will show up in all the nightmares. The outside will always look like this bad boy, but I did different interiors for each of the different nightmare themes.

Did you know I make 90% of the graphics in Game Maker? It's true! Even I am capable of self-loathing, seriously though, it's good enough that I just draw everything in the sprite editor. If I'm using something else, it's Aseprite, but I hate working with indexed colors, so I don't use it very often.

Check out this thing I'm not doing anymore. LOL The thing in the Door, I mean. I'm not doing that THING anymore. I guess you all get to see casualwear Blinkson as well. Damn, what happened here? Who knows?  Some wild stuff, probably. The pixel animation of it happening took a week to do and was about 100 frames long.

Anyway, hope life treats you all well as we head into the fall. 'til next time - The Kappawummpus.
