SlumberNapped Devlog #9 January 2024 progress report

This January progress report is a bit late, I hope you're all having a good new year.

Most of the month has been dedicated to writing and story work.

There are arias of the next nightmare that I feel didn't stand up to the quality of what I was able to do with the office hell nightmare. I'm currently fleshing those out a bit more before I lock in the story.

I finished more art but can't show most of it due to spoilers, here's a mock-up for a part of the next nightmare provided without context.

I also tweaked the banner on the game page and added this new gif that shows more of the fighting system.

Translations?

Something that the game is set up for is fan translations. I'm one dude and I can't possibly provide all the language translations myself.

My solution to this was to put all of the text for the game in one of two JSON files. My custom font supports a large range of characters that I can add to as needed. The good thing about this is that in the future if anyone wants to make a translation they can. the other good thing about it is that it lets people play around with the game data in a way that a lot of modern games don't let you do anymore.  I miss being able to poke around in a game's resources and change textures and values to customize my copy of a game and learn how they work. If you do decide to poke around the JSON files there is a guide that explains everything in greater detail.

I don't know how much more of the data I'll be making available to players when the game is done but the text is and will be available for you to mess with, even if you just want to make DAD say a cuss word or make Blinkson say how great your hair looks.

Other than that,  I'm trying to keep a healthy pace work-wise without burning myself out, see you all in a few weeks with more news and progress!
